Rector Reflection May '10

May is a marvelous month for feasting with your eyes.  The leaves are out, flowers are blooming, things are lush and vibrant.  By the end of May people are putting in their gardens.  And the yard at All Saints is no different.  We have been given a special opportunity to bless those among us who came to us from St. David's in Halifax after it closed.  The Diocese asked if we would be willing to have the memorial garden from St. David's relocated to our property.  The Diocese agreed to pay for the move.  The folks from St. David's met with the wardens and myself and sketched out some plans.  Landscapers were interviewed, one was selected.  Work is set to begin shortly in the undeveloped back yard of our property.  Monuments will be moved.  A raised bed will be prepared.  Top soil that has the ashes mixed in will be placed in the raised bed.  It will be a remarkable space of prayer and reflection.  The design is such that we hope to hold services outside during the summer months.  After the installation is complete we will dedicate the space with a special liturgy and reception.  It is a blessing to be able to receive these sacred objects from St. David's.  It is also a blessing to be able to develop our grounds for prayer and meditation.  Most of all, it is a blessing to All Saints that the people from St. David's have joined us.  Doug and I were priviledged to serve as vicars of St. David's and know first hand the depth of faith and devotion that these folks bring to our parish.  These wonderful people include: Nancy Hauge, Dale Nance, Wes & Althea Martin, Herb & Barbara Wick, Susan Loomis, Bob & Ellen Taylor, Janice & David Nickerson.  As the memorial garden comes to pass, let us give thanks to God for drawing us together as His people, one in faith, one in mission and one in love.
